Arlington & Alexandria wildlife removal - article of the month

Rat

The rat has been one of the most feared rodents in the industrialized world because they are thought to carry diseases such as the bubonic plague. While rats do not carry more diseases than any other animal, they live closer to humans than any other rodent. Rats can be found anywhere humans are found and they will live anywhere that provides a stable food supply. This usually includes attics, basements and in the inside of walls. Because of their proximity and similarities in genetic material to humans, diseases can spread very quickly. The same goes for Arlington & Alexandria raccoon removal.

There are many species of rats, and some are confused for mice. The main difference between rats and mice is size; rats are anywhere between two and three times bigger than mice. The most common type of rat is the brown and black rat that can be found all over the world. Rats will rarely get more than a foot long and can have any fur color or fur pattern (spotted, stripped, solid, etc.). Rats can be described as having a long body, short legs, a long tail and powerful incisors that can chew through many types of materials such as glass, wire, walls and metal.

The life of a rat is very short and is mainly sent looking for food and reproducing. A rat will reach sexual maturity within weeks of being born and can have over 20 babies per litter every month for the rest of their lives. The average life expectancy for a rat is less than one year, but Arlington & Alexandria rat control rats can live much longer if raised in captivity. The short life span is attributed to predation, the intentional killing of rats by other animals and humans.

Rats are scavengers and foragers. They do not hunt food, but rely solely on food that is left or that they can find. Rats have incredible senses that help lead them to food through their sense of smell, taste, touch and sound. Rats will eat anything, but prefers easily digestible foods such as grains, cereals, and nuts, bits of fruit, meat and dairy products. These are common to see on the floors in inhabited buildings, and as they do not need very much food a few crumbles can sustain them for long periods Arlington & Alexandria bat removal of time.

The easiest way to prevent a rat infestation Arlington & Alexandria rodent extermination is keeping your floors very clean as a rat can enter a home through a quarter-sized hole and then will begin breeding within the month. However, it is really hard to know that you have a rat infestation until it is too late because you can go from one or two rats in your house to over 50 in only two months. The only way to get rid of an infestation is to call an exterminator, as rat poison is not very effective. Rats can solve puzzles and have very keen senses so they will know what is poison and what is not poison.

Strangely even though humans are typically afraid of rats, they are very important in some cultures and in medicine. Rats are typical subjects for scientific Arlington & Alexandria bird control research and help us understand how diseases develop and are cured in humans. Some rats have even been trained to sniff out diseases such as tuberculosis and cancer. In some cultures rats are even considered sacred entities that are symbols of good luck. Rats are a staple food item in many countries, and kept as pets in others. Rats have been proven to be very beneficial to humans even though there is a stigma and a belief that they are all unsanitary and disease ridden.

Arlington & Alexandria opossums are not known to be one of the most terrifying creatures. But just like cats and dogs, they can sometimes bite and pass on infectious diseases to anyone. If you have a garden, most likely, it will not spare those fruits and flowers you have tended carefully. Aside from these, they can create such a terrible mess within the surroundings because they love to ransack garbage cans for some treats.

What makes them any different?
Unlike other pets, Virginia opossums can’t have rabies. But that doesn’t mean you are safe already. They still can carry rabies and pass it on when they get bad. In other words, your cat or dog won’t be that safe as well. And just like the rest of the animals from the wild, they can attack almost anyone when they feel endangered.

Inherent abilities
Like most people, you probably find Arlington & Alexandria possums to be cute and adorable because they like to play or hang themselves up on trees. Opossums have this peculiar way of getting your attention and that is by pretending helpless or playing dead. In case you found an orphaned wild animal, it is best for you to contact a Virginia wildlife rehabilitation centre than to think about raising the animal as your own pet.
